How We Review and Rate Online Casinos

A casino review should answer a simple question: what is it actually like to use this casino with real money?

That is the approach we take at MisterGamblers.

We do not want our reviews to be rewritten versions of casino homepages. Before assigning a rating, we investigate who operates the casino, which licence applies, what the payment terms say, how bonuses actually work and what happens when a player tries to withdraw.

Where practical, our reviewers also create an account, make a controlled deposit, play games, explore the cashier, contact support and test a withdrawal.

The result is a rating based on evidence rather than the size of an advertised welcome bonus.

Our Casino Review Process

Our review normally begins before we make a deposit.

1. We Identify the Operator

We look for:

  • company name;
  • ownership information;
  • registered business details;
  • licence information;
  • terms and conditions;
  • privacy policy;
  • complaints procedure;
  • restricted countries.

If the company behind a casino is difficult to identify, that immediately affects our trust assessment.

2. We Check the Gambling Licence

For casinos promoted as UK-regulated options, we check whether the operator holds the appropriate UK Gambling Commission licence.

We do not rely only on a casino displaying a regulator logo.

Where possible, we verify the operator against information provided by the regulator itself.

MisterGamblers may also publish informational reviews of international or offshore casinos because players search for these brands.

When we do, we distinguish them clearly from UKGC-licensed casinos.

An offshore casino should never be presented as though it offers the same regulatory protections as a UK-licensed operator.

3. We Open the Casino as a Player Would

We look at the registration experience rather than reviewing only the homepage.

We check:

  • registration requirements;
  • age and identity verification;
  • navigation;
  • cashier accessibility;
  • mobile experience;
  • promotions;
  • game categories;
  • account controls;
  • responsible gambling settings.

We also note when important information is difficult to find.

A casino should not receive extra credit for having good terms if those terms are buried several pages deep.

4. We Test Payments

Payments are one of the most important parts of our reviews.

When conducting a real-money test, we record details such as:

  • amount deposited;
  • payment method;
  • cryptocurrency network where applicable;
  • time submitted;
  • time credited;
  • fees;
  • minimum deposit;
  • withdrawal method;
  • withdrawal amount;
  • withdrawal request time;
  • whether KYC was requested;
  • casino approval time;
  • time funds actually arrived.

This distinction matters.

A casino may describe a withdrawal as "instant" while keeping it pending internally before the payment provider ever receives it.

We therefore separate:

Casino processing time

from:

Payment-provider processing time

and:

Total payout time.

Why We Often Test the First Withdrawal Without a Bonus

When possible, we make our initial payment test without activating a welcome bonus.

We do this because wagering requirements can complicate a withdrawal.

Testing a clean cash deposit allows us to understand the casino's basic payout process before bonus rules are introduced.

That does not mean we ignore promotions.

We analyse those separately.

5. We Play the Games

We do not judge a casino game library by the number displayed on its homepage.

We explore different categories and check whether games actually load and perform correctly.

Depending on the casino, this can include:

  • slots;
  • live casino;
  • blackjack;
  • roulette;
  • crash games;
  • instant games;
  • table games;
  • jackpot games;
  • casino originals.

During a hands-on review, we record which games were opened and what we experienced.

We do not claim that playing a small sample proves the fairness of every game at a casino.

Game testing is primarily used to evaluate usability, availability and the player experience.

6. We Read the Bonus Terms

The biggest bonus is not automatically the best bonus.

We look beyond the headline amount and check:

  • minimum deposit;
  • wagering requirement;
  • what balance must be wagered;
  • eligible games;
  • game contribution;
  • maximum bonus bet;
  • expiry period;
  • maximum cashout where applicable;
  • excluded payment methods;
  • country restrictions;
  • verification requirements.

A £1,000 bonus with restrictive conditions can be worse than a smaller promotion with straightforward terms.

That difference is reflected in our rating.

7. We Test Customer Support

When possible, we contact customer support ourselves.

We are interested in more than whether live chat exists.

We may ask practical questions about:

  • withdrawals;
  • verification;
  • bonus conditions;
  • payment limits;
  • responsible gambling;
  • account restrictions.

We consider both response speed and answer quality.

A fast but incorrect answer is not good support.

8. We Check Responsible Gambling Tools

We look for tools that help players stay in control, including:

  • financial limits;
  • time-outs;
  • self-exclusion;
  • reality checks;
  • session information;
  • access to support organisations.

For UKGC-licensed operators, we also look at how clearly the casino provides access to UK safer gambling protections.

What a 5-Star Rating Means

4.5–5.0 — Excellent

Strong performance across almost all major areas with no serious unresolved concerns.

4.0–4.4 — Very Good

A strong casino with some limitations players should know about.

3.5–3.9 — Good / Mixed

Usable, but weaknesses are significant enough to affect certain players.

3.0–3.4 — Below Our Preferred Standard

Several areas require caution.

Below 3.0 — High Caution

Serious shortcomings or risks affect our assessment.

A high score is never a guarantee that an individual player will have the same experience.

One Test Does Not Prove Every Withdrawal Will Be Fast

This is important.

If our reviewer receives a 35 USDT withdrawal in 22 minutes, we can report:

our 35 USDT test was completed in approximately 22 minutes.

We should not turn that into:

all withdrawals take 22 minutes.

Larger transactions, KYC checks, payment methods, bonus use and security reviews can produce completely different results.

Our reviews separate what we experienced from what an operator claims.

How Commercial Relationships Affect Ratings

MisterGamblers contains affiliate links and may earn compensation when users visit or register with certain gambling operators.

Commercial compensation does not add points to our rating model.

A commercial partner can receive a lower rating than a non-partner if the evidence supports it.

Similarly, a large commission does not compensate for poor licensing, problematic withdrawals, unfair bonus terms or weak responsible gambling protections.

Read our Affiliate Disclosure for more information.

How Often We Update Reviews

Casino information changes constantly.

We may revisit a review when:

  • a licence changes;
  • ownership changes;
  • bonus terms change;
  • withdrawal rules change;
  • new payment methods appear;
  • significant complaints emerge;
  • the casino redesigns its product;
  • responsible gambling controls change.

Every important review should display a Last Updated date.

Our Objective

We do not expect every player to agree with every rating.

Our objective is to make the reasoning behind that rating visible.

You should be able to read a MisterGamblers review and understand:

what we checked, what we personally tested, what came from official terms, where the risks are and why the casino received its score.
